Building Regionally? What You Need to Know

SRi has developed into more than ‘just’ a search and selection agency. Working in partnership with our clients we build out teams, assisting them to enter new sectors or markets and often develop completely new teams and offices. In the Asian region in particular, more than 75% of our placements over the last 24 months have been for newly created roles, reflecting the dynamic and changing environment of the sports industry within the region.

However, building new teams in new regions brings its own set of practical and cultural challenges.

Practical challenges include: How do organisations structure their company? How do the labour laws and working visa restrictions affect new hires? What government agency assistance is available for new organisations launching in certain Asian countries? Where should clients be located? In addition, what salary levels are standard for various roles with related responsibilities and what do overall compensation and benefits packages look like across the market?

Cultural challenges include: While the organisation looking to expand into Asia may have a strong company culture shaped from the head office down, how can this be translated into new regions? What type of people will be able to excel and adapt in cross cultural organisations?

Our services extend to advising clients, either directly or through our network of trusted contacts on these above challenges faced.

Recently we were retained by an international rights holder to conduct a search for their first senior management position in the region. As this search drew to final stages we begun discussions on the next two to three important hires that would start to build out their presence in Asia. Before that commenced though we were able to arm them with many facts including, salary benchmarks for key staff, relocation costs, temporary accommodation costs for any ‘ex-pat’ hires and legal requirements of contribution to ‘pension’ type funds required by the Singapore government. Furthermore SRi assisted on advice relating to their accounting and company secretary needs and legal representation offering practical recommendations and introductions for service providers well versed and trusted in the sports world.

In addition to this major project we have worked with other US, Australian and UK rights holders and agencies to ensure a practical set up process runs in tandem with the search for the very best available talent in the region.

SRi are able to deliver a complete new office set up or an independent operator to kick start your business in the region. We can advise on restructuring current teams to deliver business objectives and how to structure your business both organisationally (including the development of position descriptions and related KPI’s if required) and in terms of corporate governance.

Being a global operator and continually straddling the requirements from the East and the West we also take great care in qualifying cultural and organisational fit. Ensuring the team is recruited as a whole, while balancing technical strengths and gaps, is essential for start up satellite or regional offices.

For us it is simple. We are solution led and will go above and beyond to ensure clients are armed with everything they need to commence a business, build a business or re-shape a business…wherever you are.
